Oral hygiene
for children
Dental care for children up to 18 years old
Lots happens in children's mouths: milk teeth come through, teeth fall out and are replaced, and sometimes braces are fitted. Good oral care will prevent cavities, toothache, bad breath and tooth erosion.
Tip: Children under 18 can visit the dental hygienist for free under the basic health insurance.
The “Gewoon Gaaf” (Simply Cavity-Free) method is used to prevent cavities in children. This approach focuses entirely on prevention and coaching, with the aim of minimising treatments and preventing caries. A personal risk assessment for cavity formation is made for each child. Based on this, appropriate measures are implemented. Step by step, we work towards:
- A good polishing technique
- Regular dental cleaning
- Fluoride treatments (if necessary)
- Fissure sealing of molars (if necessary)
Furthermore, we determine the appropriate frequency for check-ups, so that we can intervene in good time if early cavities develop. You can find more information about “Gewoon Gaaf” from the Ivoren Kruis.
